The Palestinian Authority's recent moves to strengthen cooperation with BRICS are alarming, especially given its close ties with Russia and their shared anti-Israel sentiments.
Palestine intends to submit an official application to join BRICS after the summit, which will be held in Kazan in October, said the Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal at a press conference in Rossiya Segodnya.
The move marks an attempt by Palestine to strengthen its position on the international stage by leveraging the support of Putin and other countries that essentially oppose Israel.

Putin also personally invited Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to the summit, and an agreement was reached to convene an intergovernmental Russian-Palestinian economic commission in Moscow in December. The Palestinian side, amid all these events, has announced its plans to submit a request to join BRICS after participating in the October summit. Palestinian Authority spokesman Abdel Hafiz Nofal called the invitation to the summit a “positive message” and a sign of support for the Palestinian people, which, in essence, means approval of anti-Israeli actions and the desire of Palestine to continue its line against Israel.
China, as one of the key BRICS members, is also actively supporting the organization of this summit, which increases concerns about the formation of an anti-Western and anti-Israeli bloc in the international arena.
All of these actions pose serious challenges to Israel and its allies, highlighting the need to more actively counter such alliances and protect the state's interests in the international arena.
BRICS, as a rival to the Western world and Israel, is an association that is actively expanding. Since January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the UAE and Ethiopia have officially joined, further strengthening its position on the world stage. However, Saudi Arabia has not yet joined the organization, despite expectations. In July 2024, Malaysia applied to join BRICS, which also indicates a growing interest in this association among countries outside the Western alliance.
This expansion of BRICS is causing concern in the West, as the organization is becoming a powerful counterweight to Western and Israeli interests, creating new challenges in global geopolitics.
