The Ukrainian Embassy in Israel issued a statement on September 1, 2024, calling for an end to the “axis of evil.” The diplomats commented on the killing of Israeli hostages held by the Palestinian group Hamas, emphasizing that both Israel and Ukraine were attacked by the “axis of evil,” which includes Iran, Hamas, Russia, and Hezbollah.

The embassy statement said “it was a difficult morning for both Israel and Ukraine,” noting parallels between Hamas' terrorist actions and Russia's ongoing attacks on civilian targets in Kharkiv.

Ukraine's diplomatic mission called on the two countries' Western allies to unite in the fight against terrorism, stressing the need for joint efforts to eliminate the threat posed by the “axis of evil.”

On September 1, Russia shelled Kharkov again, injuring 29 people, and the day before, four civilians were killed, including a 14-year-old girl. That same day, the Israeli military reported finding the bodies of six hostages who died in Hamas captivity, including a US citizen.
