A full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon could have “catastrophic and unforeseen consequences,” a senior US official said at the Middle East-US Dialogue summit in Washington. He noted that there are no easy solutions to the situation and that the idea of ​​destroying Hezbollah missiles does not guarantee success.

“There is an idea: 'Let's start a war and then destroy all Hezbollah missiles and everything will be fine.' It is not that simple. There is no magic solution. The other side cannot be destroyed. Israel may pay a high price and not achieve its goals,” the speaker is quoted as saying by Barak Ravid. According to him, Israeli officials must take into account the possibility of a large number of Israeli casualties and the inability of many to return to their destroyed homes.

Speaking at the conference, the speaker also warned that during a war between Israel and Hezbollah, public pressure to stop the fighting and find a diplomatic solution would be enormous. He noted that the international community would seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict and stressed the need to develop alternative paths to achieve stability in the region.
