At the UN General Assembly in New York on 10 September 2024, a representative of Palestine took his place for the first time among the 193 member states.

Previously, Palestine had observer status, but thanks to resolution ES-10/23 it received additional rights.

It now has more opportunities to participate in the work of the UN, although its membership status is not yet full.

Palestine is a partially recognized state: 138 of the 193 member states have recognized its independence. Diplomats applauded as the Palestinian representative took his seat, with the Egyptian representative calling the event historic.
