Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Injured in Pager Explosion, Losing One Eye – NYT

Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was seriously injured in a pager blast, losing one eye and severely damaging the other. He was flown to Tehran for treatment after the attack. Social media posted a video of the ambassador on the streets of Lebanon with his shirt bleeding.

A Saudi news channel reported that Amani was stable and had minor injuries, despite initial reports to the contrary. A series of Hezbollah pager bombings in Lebanon killed nine people and injured thousands. Hezbollah blamed Israel.

Israeli officials have not commented on the operation in Lebanon, but informed sources say Israel was responsible for the attack. According to media reports, Israel hid the explosives in new pagers imported to Lebanon from Taiwan. The attack came after Israeli leaders threatened to intensify their military campaign against Hezbollah.
