Ukraine's bid to join NATO is not a topic “to be rushed,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with NBC News. He told the UN General Assembly in New York that the United States and other Western alliance countries do not want Ukraine to join.

Erdogan stressed that decisions on accession are taken carefully, taking into account the positions of other NATO members and discussing them at the negotiating table. The Turkish leader added that he will study the positions of other members of the alliance and make a decision thoroughly, following the stages of discussion.

In addition, Erdogan noted the strengthening of relations between Turkey and Russia, emphasizing the existence of political, economic, cultural and defensive ties between Ankara and Moscow.
