On October 4, 2024, activists of the Femen movement held another provocative action near the Iranian Embassy in Kyiv. This action was directed against the military support that Iran provides to Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.
Arriving at the building on a moped, they undressed in front of the entrance and painted the slogans “Fuk Russia” and “Fuk Iran” on their bodies, expressing their outrage at the cooperation between the two countries. Slogans were also loudly shouted during the protest. Embassy officials made no official statements about the incident, although some employees left the building and took photographs of the activists. Femen is an international feminist movement that was founded in Ukraine in 2008. The movement became known for its protests, which often involve the display of the naked female body as a symbol of the struggle for women's rights, against sexism, political injustice, religious oppression and corrupt authorities. The leader of Femen is Anna Hutsol, who since its founding has been actively promoting the ideas of the movement in the international arena.
The purpose of the rally at the Iranian Embassy was to protest against the close ties between Iran and Russia, which include the supply of military equipment and weapons to the Russian army. Femen activists used their usual tactics – nudity and harsh slogans – to draw attention to their political positions and cause a stir in society. Visual symbolism of a naked body and loud slogans are aimed at emphasizing the seriousness and emotional intensity of their message, which has become the “calling card” of all Femen actions.
