A source in the Lebanese government said that the success of American envoy Amos Hochstein's visit to Beirut depends on the positive results of the negotiation process in Israel.
Israeli conditions for a truce with Hezbollah are rejected by Lebanon and are also considered unacceptable to the international community. Israel is trying to use the destruction in Lebanon to dictate terms of surrender.
Israel has superiority in air strikes, but ground activity and losses make it impossible to set conditions and force Lebanon to comply with them. The success of the Hochstein mission is associated with a settlement based on UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without its amendments.
Israel's main demands for Lebanon include implementation of the resolution, the withdrawal of Hezbollah's armed units, border control and security, prevention of rearmament and a temporary truce.
