Ukraine is negotiating with various partners about the transfer of urgently needed air defense systems. It is important that these systems help strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure from possible attacks from Russia.

Georgy Tikhy, official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, announced this at a briefing. He noted that during the visit of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to NATO, the issue of additional military support, including strengthening air defense over Ukraine, was discussed.

It is extremely important for Ukraine to receive 20 Hawk, NASAMS or Iris-T air defense systems by the end of this year to protect energy facilities. The speaker noted that after negotiations at NATO, several possible options for systems were identified that could be transferred to Ukraine as soon as possible.

We are now actively working with partners to agree on providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons. The issue of transferring additional Patriot systems and the THAAD missile defense system is also being considered, since there are no prohibitions on the transfer of various types of weapons and systems that could help Ukraine strengthen its defense.

The United States recently deployed a THAAD missile defense battery to Israel, an important step in the security context of the region. The US military has a limited number of such systems capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.
