Reports that the Israeli military is advancing into Syria were denied by an Israeli military source on Tuesday. He stated that such reports are unreliable and called them rumors. Israeli troops plan to occupy the buffer zone in Syria, as well as other strategically important points.
According to Al-Mayadeen, citing sources, Israeli armored vehicles have advanced deep into Syria and are now located about 20 km from Damascus. Previously, the Israel Defense Forces stressed that it would only operate in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria.
The Israeli military took up positions in the buffer zone after reports of a change of power in Syria. Israeli authorities characterized this as a temporary measure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that the agreement on the buffer zone in the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria, in force since the 1970s, currently does not actually exist. “The Syrian military has abandoned its positions,” the Israeli Prime Minister emphasized.
