Israel carried out a strike on an air defense facility near a port in Latakia province in Syria, Reuters reported, citing sources.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the Israeli army has attacked targets inside Syria and entered Syrian territory outside the buffer zone for the first time since 1973.
The Russian Khmeimim airbase is located 25 km south of Latakia. Moscow and Damascus entered into an agreement to station Russian forces there for 49 years in 2017. In satellite images of the Russian fleet base after the group’s offensive in Syria, analysts noticed the absence of ships.
