In Israel, archaeologists made an interesting discovery — fragments of stone jars were found, which may be connected to the Gospel story of Jesus Christ’s first miracle, when water was turned into wine. The artifacts were discovered in 2004 by researcher Yardena Alexander during excavations in the modern settlement of Cana of Galilee. She believes that this place may correspond to the ancient village of Cana mentioned in the Bible.

Alexander suggested that the found jars could have been the very vessels used by Jesus at the wedding.

“I suspect that these jars could be the ones that, according to the Gospel, Jesus used during the wedding feast when water was turned into wine,” noted the archaeologist.

The fragments of the vessels were found in the area between Capernaum and Nazareth. The modern Arab city was built next to the ancient settlement, adding context to the find. The researcher reported that from the size of the fragments, it can be determined that the diameter of the jars ranged from 12 to 16 inches. These parameters match the descriptions contained in the Gospel of John.

Additional finds at the excavation, such as a Jewish ritual bath and local pottery, indicate the everyday life of an ancient community. According to Alexander, this corresponds to the image of a small and modest village described in religious texts.
