In recent days, information has been received from the IAEA that the organization does not have current data regarding Iran’s nuclear program, as Tehran has suspended cooperation with the agency. Grossi emphasizes that the organization will not be able to provide evidence on the stated issues without the full resumption of the security guarantees agreement, which included allowing IAEA inspectors access to the country’s nuclear facilities.

On June 22, the United States conducted strikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran — in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. These actions followed operations by the Israeli Air Force aimed at eliminating Iran’s nuclear program.

On June 25, the Iranian parliament passed a bill that provides for the temporary cessation of cooperation with the IAEA. Two days later, on June 27, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Guardian Council had approved this document, which would allow it to be enacted.

The law on the suspension of cooperation was signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on July 2. According to it, IAEA inspectors will be prohibited from entering the country “until national security in the nuclear sphere is ensured.”

Nevertheless, by the end of August, Iranian authorities confirmed that IAEA inspectors had resumed work in Iran. Rafael Grossi reported that agency specialists would monitor the fuel replacement process at the Bushehr nuclear power plant.
