Communication on Key Issues
The leaders of the BRICS countries, including China’s head Xi Jinping and Russia’s president Putin, held an online meeting on September 8, 2025. Participants discussed support for communication on the issues of the “war in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza.”
In a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the information was highlighted in the context of Xi’s participation in the event. The mentioned issues are recognized as hot topics, emphasizing the seriousness of the current conflicts.
Effective Use of International Platforms
Participants of the meeting noted the importance of the “Group of Friends of Peace” on the “Ukrainian crisis,” created last year at the UN on the initiative of China and Brazil. The decision on “two states for resolving the Palestinian issue” was also discussed, highlighting the “aspiration for peace in the Middle East.”
Response to US Tariffs
One of the key issues was countering the increased US tariffs. Xi Jinping proposed deepening interaction among BRICS countries based on openness and mutually beneficial cooperation. This will allow for joint protection of multilateralism.
Proposals of the Chinese Leader
During the discussion, Xi Jinping put forward three proposals for BRICS countries. The first concerns the protection of the international system based on the UN. The second is the support of multilateral trade with the central role of the World Trade Organization. The third is deepening cooperation for common development.
Development of Initiatives
China intends to continue interaction with other BRICS members, implementing the Global Development Initiative and the “One Belt, One Road” project. This cooperation will be aimed at achieving practical results.
Structure of BRICS and Its Role
The BRICS group, which includes countries such as Brazil, India, Russia, Iran, and many others, is perceived as a significant geopolitical player. It represents a competitor to the G7 bloc, focused on the world’s leading economies.
The organization is actively developing competing initiatives, such as the BRICS Development Bank and the BRICS PAY system, similar to the international SWIFT system. This underscores the growing influence of the group on the global stage.
