Ukraine and Israel have agreed to soon begin a full-fledged strategic dialogue on security issues and simultaneously deepen political interaction. This is not about symbolic consultations, but about establishing a sustainable communication channel against the backdrop of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the unstable situation in the Middle East.
The decision was confirmed following a meeting in Jerusalem, as reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel.
Context of the Meeting in Jerusalem
The negotiations involved the Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk, as well as representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Deputy Director General, Head of the Bureau for Eurasian and Western Balkan Affairs Yuval Fuchs and Head of the Bureau for International Organizations and the UN Hadas Meitzad.
The parties discussed the entire spectrum of Ukrainian-Israeli relations — from bilateral contacts to the global agenda. The focus was on the ongoing armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the risks of regional escalation in the Middle East, and the coordination of actions on international platforms.
Political Signals and Assessments
It is separately noted that the Israeli side positively assessed the decision of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to recognize Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. This step was perceived as an important political signal of solidarity in countering state terrorism and hybrid threats.
Ukraine, for its part, once again called on Israel to officially join the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children Illegally Taken from Occupied Territories.
Launch of Security Dialogue
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to launch the Ukrainian-Israeli strategic dialogue on security issues as soon as possible. Simultaneously, the parties plan to conduct political consultations between the relevant departments of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Israel responsible for international organizations.
It is also planned to organize a series of high-level bilateral contacts on current international agenda issues, including regional stability, energy security, and humanitarian challenges.
Assistance to Ukraine and the Energy Dimension
The Israeli side expressed its intention to intensify efforts to assist Ukraine. In particular, this involves support in the energy sector — an area that remains critically important for Ukrainian resilience amid ongoing infrastructure attacks.
