An IDF spokesman reported the destruction of an underground offensive route in the Gaza Strip, some 3 kilometers long. The Jerusalem Brigade led by the 252nd Division carried out active combat operations, destroying dozens of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure facilities.
Southern Command engineering units, the Yahalom unit and brigade forces discovered and destroyed this underground tunnel. Part of the route was destroyed during Operation Tzuk Eitan in 2014. The tunnel was recently finally destroyed by the IDF and did not reach Israeli territory.
The Hamas terrorist group has long tried to rebuild the tunnel, but the IDF prevented its use. The militants previously held Farhan Kadi in the tunnel until Israeli soldiers freed him. After his rescue, Farhan told his family that the Hamas militants left the tunnel when the IDF arrived.
