Irmgard Fürchner worked as a secretary to the SS commandant at the Stutthof concentration camp, where at least 65,000 people died. In 2022, she was convicted of complicity in the murder of 10,505 people during her time at the camp. She was sentenced to two years in prison for incitement and aiding and abetting murder. Rejecting her lawyer's argument that she was performing “routine” duties, the court found her guilty.

Germany's Federal Court upheld the ruling and did not allow an appeal. Irmgard Fürchner became the world's oldest fugitive when she failed to show up for the opening of her trial in 2021. She was arrested on that basis. She is the last nonagenarian to be convicted of Holocaust crimes.
