A child's intelligence is heavily influenced by genetics, with researchers at the University of Glasgow arguing that maternal genes play a larger role in passing on intelligence to children. Genetics determines intelligence by 40-60%, and the rest is influenced by external factors such as environment and upbringing.

Scientists conducted experiments on laboratory rats to confirm their hypothesis. Rats that received more maternal genes had larger brains but smaller bodies, while rats that received more paternal genes had smaller brains but larger bodies.

To confirm the results in humans, scientists studied data from more than 12 thousand adolescents aged 14 to 22 years from various social and ethnic groups. The study found that teenagers' IQ tends to match that of their mothers. The fathers' genes, in turn, influence other aspects such as eating behavior, aggression and sexual behavior. Mom's genes play a key role in cognitive functions such as thinking, analytical skills and forecasting.

The need for a strong emotional bond between mother and child for cognitive development has also been supported by research. The results show the importance of maternal investment in the development of children's intellectual abilities, but also note the importance of the influence of environment, upbringing and access to learning in the development of children's intellectual potential.
