On February 12, 2025, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky announced that he had handed over an EcoFlow portable charging station to the brother of Nazar Itkin, a fighter in the elite Israeli Egoz special forces unit who was killed in action in southern Lebanon in October 2024.
This gesture became a symbol of the connection between Israel and Ukraine, the common struggle for the security and freedom of the two peoples.
Nazar was 21 years old. He repatriated to Israel from Ukraine in 2014.
His father David Itkin now lives in Israel, while his mother and older brother remained near Kyiv. From the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, David, despite his venerable age, stood up to defend his homeland: first in the territorial defense of the Kyiv region, and then in the battles in the Kharkov direction.
“This is further proof that the war in Ukraine and Israel is a common grief,” noted Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Azman.
EcoFlow — a symbol of help and support
The transfer of the EcoFlow charging station is part of a large-scale humanitarian program initiated by Israel to help Ukraine. In early 2025, several hundred of these devices were sent to Ukrainian cities to help people survive the winter and cope with constant power outages.
The Israeli Embassy in Kyiv and the Center for International Cooperation of the Israeli Foreign Ministry (MASHAV) are actively transferring stations to needy families in different regions of Ukraine.
News of Israel and Ukraine on the NAnews website have already covered projects aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. The EcoFlow broadcast took on special significance this time, as it was addressed to the hero’s family.
Nazar Itkin – the story of a true hero
Nazar Itkin served in an elite unit of the Israel Defense Forces and was a true professional. He died on October 2, 2024, defending the civilian population of Israel, along with five comrades, after being ambushed by Hezbollah terrorists in the village of Al-Adaisah in southern Lebanon.
Nazar’s story is an example of true heroism and dedication to one’s cause. From childhood, he was raised in the spirit of perseverance and love for his homeland. His father David Itkin, a participant in the Ukrainian territorial defense, showed by personal example what it means to defend freedom and independence.
Common struggle and common pain
The death of Nazar Itkin reminds us that Ukraine and Israel are fighting the same fight. Terrorist threats and external aggression equally threaten the civilians of both countries.
Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Azman, who himself recently lost his adopted son, who died in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized:
“These stories unite our peoples. Israel and Ukraine are not just allies, they are countries that share common values and grief.”
Israel’s support for Ukraine
In addition to the transfer of charging stations, Israel provides Ukraine with comprehensive humanitarian aid. Back in 2022, a field hospital was deployed, where thousands of Ukrainians received medical care.
| Type of assistance | Volume and details |
|---|---|
| EcoFlow portable charging stations | 500+ units, delivered all over Ukraine |
| Medical care | Field hospital deployed in 2022 |
| Consultations for the Ukrainian military | Joint projects from 2022 |
Conclusion
The story of Nazar Itkin is not only the tragedy of one family, but also a symbol of common sacrifices and commonher struggle. Such stories strengthen the bond between our peoples and remind us of the importance of support and mutual assistance.
