December 6 is celebrated annually as the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – a symbol of courage, perseverance and love for one’s country. This holiday was established in 1993 by the Verkhovna Rada on the day the Law of Ukraine “On the Armed Forces of Ukraine” was adopted.
This day is not only a tribute to the soldiers defending their homeland, but also a reminder to every citizen of the price that Ukraine pays for freedom and independence.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said:
“When we say: “Glory to Ukraine!” and we hear in response: “Glory to the heroes!”, we understand who these words are about. These are those who protect Ukraine, its future and each of us.”
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have become an integral part of the modern history of the country. They inspire not only Ukrainians, but the whole world with their courage and faith in victory.
History of the holiday
This day was not chosen by chance. On December 6, 1991, immediately after the declaration of independence, the Law of Ukraine “On the Armed Forces” was adopted. Since then, this date has become a symbol of a new era for Ukraine, an era of freedom and struggle for its place in the world.
