During the summit of European foreign ministers in Brussels, EU High Commissioner Josep Borrell was unable to advance his anti-Israel initiatives. He proposed ending the diplomatic dialogue with Israel and banning the import of goods from Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria. However, these initiatives found support only in Spain and Ireland; other countries expressed their misunderstanding.
The EU has never considered the idea of boycotting Israeli goods from Judea and Samaria, although some social activists have demanded labeling of such goods. Borrell’s proposal to end the diplomatic dialogue with Israel raised doubts, since relations with Israel are regulated by a special partnership agreement operating within the European Union. The EU's top diplomats did not see the high commissioner's arguments as convincing.
It is also noted that Borrell will soon leave his position, and his proposals are no longer taken seriously in the European Union. Consequently, his far-reaching ideas did not receive widespread support from European countries.
