Thursday, January 8, 2026 — the parole board approved the early release of former Knesset member and ex-Deputy Minister of the Interior of Israel Faina Kirshenbaum. This refers to the board’s decision, not the fact that she has already been released.
It is reported that Kirshenbaum spent about 4.5 years in custody, and after the decision comes into effect, she is to be released soon.
Publications emphasize that the prosecution did not object to the early release, and the issue was considered within an agreed procedure.
Kirshenbaum was convicted in a corruption case related to her political activities. The court found her guilty in March 2021, and in July 2021 a prison term of 10 years was imposed.
Later, the sentence was reviewed: in August 2022 the Supreme Court reduced the term to 7.5 years. Then followed a presidential reduction: in 2024 the term was reduced to 6 years 9 months and 22 days, a fine of 500 thousand shekels is also mentioned, and a change in the order of its execution.
The board, as noted, pointed out the severity of the crimes and the damage to public trust, but also took into account Kirshenbaum’s participation in rehabilitation programs and her statements of accepting responsibility.
Kirshenbaum herself, after the decision, stated that she takes responsibility for her actions, regrets the damage caused, and wants to return to her family.
The topic has become noticeable again because the decision on one of the high-profile corruption cases shows how the mechanism of early release for former high-ranking officials works in practice in Israel — this fact is recorded by NAnews — News of Israel | Nikk.Agency.
