The G7 countries commented on the situation in Syria, expressing support for an inclusive process of transition of power – this is stated in a statement that the G7 countries published on December 12, 2024.

“We call on all parties to preserve the territorial integrity and national unity of Syria and respect its independence and sovereignty. We reiterate our support for the UN Separation Observer Force, which monitors the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria,” the statement said.

The support of the people of Syria, the willingness to support the transition of power and the condemnation of terrorism and extremism in all its forms are all contained in the G7 statement.

“We hope that anyone who wants to take part in governing Syria will demonstrate commitment to the rights of all Syrians, prevent the collapse of state institutions, work towards the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the country and provide conditions for the safe and dignified voluntary return to Syria of all those who were forced to leave country,” the statement said.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), designated a terrorist group by the US, and its allies toppled Assad on December 8, less than two weeks after the offensive began. Following this, the Israeli Defense Minister announced that Israeli troops were strengthening the buffer zone “between Syria and the Golan Heights.”
