Foreign Minister Gideon Saar ordered the closure of the Israeli embassy in Dublin due to “anti-Semitic actions and speech in Ireland”. Ireland was accused of “delegitimizing and demonizing the Jewish state” and crossed “all red lines” in relation to Israel. The Foreign Ministry's protest was caused by the unilateral recognition of the Palestinian state and joining South Africa's lawsuit against Israel.
Saarland did not announce the severance of diplomatic relations with Ireland, although it ordered the closure of the embassy. Simultaneously with the closure in Dublin, a diplomatic mission was opened in Chisinau. Since 2012, Israel has been actively cooperating with Moldova, but before that it did not see the need to have an embassy in Chisinau; connections were maintained through Kyiv.
Israel plans to bring its system of diplomatic missions into line with the policies of other countries towards it. New steps mean adaptation and strengthening of the state’s foreign policy ties in the international arena.
