Hamas appointed Sinwar as head of the Politburo following a decision by the Shura Council.

Yahya Sinwar has been elected as the head of the political bureau and leader of the Hamas movement, replacing the slain Ismail Haniyeh. The decision was made by the organization's Shura Council, despite other candidates such as Khaled Meshaal and Musa Abu Marzouq. Sinwar, one of the architects of the October 7 attack, has consolidated his leadership in Hamas and remains active even from the underground tunnels of the Gaza Strip.

Sirens sounded in several Israeli cities after Sinwar's selection was officially announced. Three rockets were fired, one of which was intercepted by a missile defense system. Plans for a joint leadership involving Meshaal and Jabari were considered, but met with resistance within the organization.

Sinwar has thus consolidated his leadership of Hamas, despite opposition and attempts by other factions to influence events. Important decisions regarding ceasefire negotiations and the release of hostages remain under his control, which demonstrates his influence within the organization.
