Tens of thousands of Hasidim have gathered in Uman, Cherkasy region, to celebrate the Jewish New Year. It begins today after sunset, marking the start of the year 5786 on the Jewish calendar.
Correspondent from TSN Dmytro Furda reports that there are many pilgrims in the city. A communal prayer began at noon.
The exact number of guests has not yet been specified. It is noted that law enforcement officers are finding common ground with foreign pilgrims.
Celebration of Communal Prayer
The Hasidim speak about the significance of visiting Uman on this day. One of the pilgrims, Yonatan Gershvan, emphasized:
“It is important for people to come here every New Year, to be at the grave of their leader, mentor. This is a moment of deep connection between the Ukrainian and Jewish peoples, especially around Rebbe Nachman.”
Another pilgrim stated:
“We love Ukraine! There is no place for Putin. He is equivalent to Iran! We hate Iran!”
A participant in the celebration added:
“Wishing Ukrainians to be strong! Ukraine must remain resilient against Putin and his aggression! And the truth will prevail!”
Situation in the City
Apparently, the atmosphere in Uman remains benevolent. In the spirit of traditional celebration, pilgrims gather and spend time together, praying and celebrating the New Year in unity.
The correspondent’s observations suggest that such a celebration strengthens cultural and spiritual ties between peoples, reminding of the importance of traditions and mutual assistance.
As for the police, they are successfully coping with their task, maintaining order and providing assistance to visitors.
The celebration will continue, and the number of gathered Hasidim will grow as the hour approaches, which is traditionally considered the most important.
