IDF reduces reservist operational duty time by more than half

The IDF's decision to reduce the length of operational duty for reservists from 20 weeks to 9 weeks per soldier has generated much debate. Now reservists will be called up immediately for the entire duration of their service, including those units that participate in hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon.

In recent weeks, the turnout of reservists has dropped to 75-85%, which means an increase in moral and physical stress for the soldiers.

The Knesset Special Committee on Strengthening and Development of the Negev and Galilee discussed the problem of reservists being exhausted after 400 days of service. One of the meeting participants emphasized the importance of service, but also drew attention to the heavy burden that falls on reservists and their families.

We should expect further discussions on this issue in the social and political spheres of Israel.
