On August 26, 2024, Israeli government spokesman David Menser said Iran-backed Hezbollah had suffered a crushing blow from Israel. However, he noted that the situation on the border remained volatile, Reuters reported.
Menser also commented on the evacuation from northern Israel, saying that Israel will fulfill its duty and return the population to sovereign territory.
Recall that on August 25, Hezbollah announced it would retaliate against Israel for the killing of senior military commander Fuad Shukr. The Israelis launched strikes against the group, calling them preemptive, after intelligence detected an imminent threat.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern following the exchange of attacks between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah. The parties' actions endanger civilians and threaten regional security and stability.
