A series of acts of vandalism have taken place in central Beirut due to the economic crisis, with groups of people attacking several banks. Windows were smashed, fires were started and tires were set on fire, ORF News and L'Orient-Le Jour.

After staging a sit-in, depositors attacked banks in the center of Lebanon's capital, where a series of acts of vandalism took place. The event, planned for the morning, came almost two years after depositors robbed banks trying to access their funds.

Witnesses said that about fifty depositors attacked various banks and then headed to a branch of the Bank of Beirut. Lebanon has seen its worst economic crisis since 2019, with banks imposing restrictions on foreign currency withdrawals. This has caused problems for many residents in accessing their dollar savings.

Many people can no longer access their dollar savings, even though many Lebanese hold accounts in the US currency. The country's crisis has also been linked to corruption in politics and business. According to the United Nations, three-quarters of Lebanon's population lives in poverty, and the Lebanese currency has lost more than 95% of its value.
