From October 2024, the installation of systems will begin in the most vulnerable cities of the Krivoy Rog district and villages of the Nikolaev region, says IsraAID on its website .

IsraAID is working with local governments to install reverse osmosis water purification systems and improved pumping stations. These systems will provide millions of liters of free clean drinking water to communities whose infrastructure has been destroyed by the fighting and the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam.

Ongoing fighting and attacks on infrastructure have left many communities without safe water sources and have led to regular power outages. Following the collapse of the Kakhovka Dam in June 2023, many residents of southeastern Ukraine were left without drinking water and suffered flooding and environmental consequences. Reverse osmosis water purification systems can remove contaminants from even the dirtiest water sources, providing safe drinking water for institutions such as schools and healthcare facilities.

IsraAID is purchasing eight large reverse osmosis systems, each capable of producing 1,500 liters of water per hour, to be installed in public areas. For institutions without the necessary infrastructure, 20 Aquabox systems with a capacity of 250 liters per hour will be installed. All systems will monitor water quality and usage. Local administrations will help select locations for the systems to meet the needs of each community. IsraAID will train local operators on the proper use and maintenance of the systems.

In addition, IsraAID is installing 17 modern pumping stations with frequency converters to ensure stable operation of the equipment even during voltage fluctuations. Since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine, IsraAID has supported communities in the Mykolaiv region by installing 15 reverse osmosis stations, 8 pumping stations and two mobile stations. IsraAID has already provided more than 15 million liters of safe water to residents of Mykolaiv and continues to produce more than 1 million liters of water per month.
