On August 26, 2024, at 13:00, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran does not seek to increase tensions in the Middle East. This was said in connection with Tehran's response to the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Ghania. Following Ghaniya's assassination, Iran has said it is ready to retaliate against Israel for the Hamas leader's death.
