The main feature of the short-range air defense missile system (SAM) is the use of a radar system with a phased array of S-band, detecting targets at a distance of up to 150 km. This is a key element of Iran's integrated air defense network.
Iran is ready to deploy its new 9-Dey air defense missile system amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel. The system will be an important addition to Iran's arsenal, improving its ability to defend itself against air attacks, Army Recognition reported on August 7.
The system was first unveiled on May 21, 2021, marking a significant milestone for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is developing new weapons as part of the Armed Forces' modernization program. During the Velayat Skies Defenders 2023 exercise, which took place from November 5 to 7, 2023, the 9-Dey system successfully destroyed targets, demonstrating its effectiveness and precision.
Experts note that the 9-Dey is a short-range mobile air defense system aimed at engaging low-flying targets. It is capable of engaging targets at a distance of 5 to 30 km and has a flight ceiling of 20 km, providing wide coverage of threats from various altitudes. The system uses the same 6×6 base as the Sevom Khordad missile system, but has an updated launcher configuration, allowing it to accommodate eight missiles for launch.
