The Population Registration Office under the Israeli Ministry of Internal Affairs has extended the decree to simplify the border crossing procedure for Israelis with other citizenship until December 31, 2025. This allows you to cross the border using foreign passports both when leaving and when entering, which is especially important in light of the repatriation of Russians and Ukrainians living “in two countries.”
The measure was introduced in March 2022 due to months-long queues for international passports. This is expected to help reduce the burden on the paperwork system. However, in addition to the convenience for repatriates, there is a likely implication that this measure also prevents the use of Israeli passports by undesirable individuals.
Simplifying entry with foreign passports not only makes life easier for tens of thousands of repatriates, but also reduces the risks associated with moving around the world under a dubious identity. Thus, the Israeli Ministry of Internal Affairs is trying to balance the interests of repatriates and the security of the state in the context of active mobilization and sanctions.
