Israel is speeding up the process of concluding a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in an effort to satisfy Donald Trump, the US president-elect.
An Israeli official said an agreement would be reached in January. Trump has expressed a desire to end armed conflicts in various regions, including the Middle East, but at the same time supports decisive Israeli actions against Hezbollah and Hamas.
Netanyahu noted that he had three conversations with Trump in recent days and sees great prospects for Israel in promoting peace. However, The Washington Post points out the complexity of the situation due to the multi-front conflict. The meetings discussed a wide range of issues, but representatives of Netanyahu, Trump and Kushner refrained from commenting or providing additional details.
