The Window To Peace project, which was initiated and supported by the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine, continues to please with its noble goals and significant results. One of the key figures in this project was Israeli artist Zoya Sever. She applied her artistic talents to decorate the walls of the bomb shelter of the Kharkiv Children's City Clinical Hospital No. 16, making this space not just a place of refuge, but also a source of hope for children who are forced to spend time there during air raids.
The project has an important feature: children are involved in the process of creating drawings. They not only help the artist in creating the paintings, but also participate in developing the plots that appear on the walls of bomb shelters. This collaboration serves as a therapeutic tool for children, helping them express their emotions and distract themselves from disturbing thoughts. The process of drawing itself becomes a way of expressing children's fantasies and aspirations for a peaceful life.
Regina Shafir, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine, commented:
“The paintings Zoya Sever makes together with children on the walls of shelters are a kind of “window to the world”. In this window are Israel, Ukraine, clear skies and hope for a peaceful future. The Israeli Embassy in Ukraine initiated this project with great enthusiasm and continues to support it.”
The project has also received significant support from business representatives. Vitaly Sedler, CEO and co-founder of the IT company Intellias, actively supported the idea, emphasizing the importance of this art project for improving the psychological state of children. Art created in bomb shelters not only makes these spaces more visually pleasing, but also has a positive effect on the emotional state of those who are forced to live in such shelters in conditions of constant threats.
In addition to Kharkov, the project has spread to other cities in Ukraine. Thus, volunteers from the Jewish organization “Poltava Volunteer Community” also made their contribution, having painted the walls of the bomb shelter in Poltava Special School No. 40. This school, managed by the Poltava City Council, has become a place where children can feel safer and calmer during air raids. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and artists, the walls of the bomb shelter have been transformed into a bright and cozy corner that gives children a sense of security and hope.
The Poltava Volunteer Community Center at the Poltava Jewish Foundation Hesed Nefesh Charitable Organization was happy to join in creating a new atmosphere in the Poltava school shelter, noting the importance of such projects for moral support of children in conditions of constant stress. The project participants themselves emphasize that art is a powerful tool that can help children not only cope with experiences, but also continue to believe in a better future, despite all the difficulties.
The Window to the World project is becoming a symbol of the connection between Israel and Ukraine, uniting the two countries in their quest for peace and security for all, especially for the most vulnerable – children.
