Leaders of some EU countries want to return control of southern Lebanon to the country's army.

Last week, Cyprus hosted a summit of the Mediterranean Group MED9, which includes Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Slovenia, Portugal and Croatia.

In the final declaration, the leaders emphasized their commitment to continue to support Lebanon and its people, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, which play an important stabilizing role.

The situation in the Middle East, in particular, the escalation of the military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah after the conflict in Gaza, is of serious concern.

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed the importance of the return of the Lebanese armed forces to the south of the country and the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty to ensure peace and stability.

A ministerial conference is planned in Paris at the end of October aimed at increasing aid to Lebanon amid the crisis, as well as strengthening the country's military and internal security.
