Russian troops in Syria face a massive crisis. According to power steering (Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine)regular military rotations have been suspended. Instead, mercenaries from so-called “private military companies” (PMCs) are sent to the region.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the position of the troops of the Bashar al-Assad regime, supported by Russia, has deteriorated significantly. On many fronts there is chaos, retreat, as well as losses in manpower and equipment.
Failures of Assad's army: what's happening?
The situation on the Syrian front has worsened since November 27. Active clashes between opposition forces and Assad's troops led to the following changes:
- Loss of control over the key city of Aleppo.
- Fighting in the Hama area and the advance of the opposition towards Homs.
- The chaotic retreat of Bashar al-Assad's army, leaving behind weapons and equipment.

To stabilize the situation, the Kremlin is sending mercenaries, including from the so-called Afrika Korps. In addition, Arabic-Russian translators are sent to assist Russian officers.
