Russia has asked Turkey to support the safe withdrawal of its military from Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime. This was reported by CNN Turk.
Russian troops plan to leave Syria, leaving only two strategically important bases – in Tartus and Khmeimim. It is assumed that the soldiers will be transferred to zones under the control of the Turkish armed forces, and then transported to Russia by plane.
In Syria, the armed opposition captured Damascus, forcing President Bashar al-Assad to leave the country. The Assad dynasty has ruled Syria since 1971, using repression and terror to maintain power.
Russia and Iran were key regime allies in the civil war. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said that Kyiv supports the Syrian people and is ready to restore diplomatic relations with Syria in the future.
