Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticised Britain's “disgraceful” decision to suspend some licences to export weapons used in military operations in Gaza. The criticism comes in response to the UK blocking around 30 licences for a range of goods, including components for military aircraft, on 2 September 2024.

Despite assurances that it would not harm Israel's security, Netanyahu said the decision would not crush his country's spirit of fighting Hamas, which the prime minister says is committing genocide.

According to the Financial Times, a few days after the killing of six Israeli hostages by Hamas, the British government suspended 30 licenses to supply weapons to Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu noted that this unfair decision will not reduce Israel's determination to confront the terrorist organization. Recall that as a result of the attack on October 7, 1,200 people were killed, including 14 British citizens.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant also expressed his anger at the UK's sanctions on export licenses for the Israeli defense establishment. Britain, despite being a small arms supplier to Israel, has already faced diplomatic consequences for suspending sales during the war.

Britain has become the first Western ally of Israel to halt arms supplies during the current conflict. Although British arms account for just 1% of Israel's arms imports, the decision has already caused a stir in international relations.
