Politico reports that Azerbaijan is replacing its energy resources with Russian ones when supplying Europe, which is ultimately beneficial for Russia.
As noted, although supply volumes are small, it still benefits Russia. The article notes that when Europe abandoned Russian oil and gas, Azerbaijan became an alternative supplier, but in order to increase exports to the European Union it had to increase imports of gas and oil from Russia.
The response to the article came from Baku. An aide to the Azerbaijani President, Hikmet Hajiyev, said the article was disinformation, emphasizing that Azerbaijan did not import gas from Russia in 2024.
He said: “We demand that Politico Europe apologize and remove this false article.”
