About 30 thousand believers gathered in Piazza San Pietro to listen to Pope Francis' New Year's speech. The Pontiff appealed to the leaders of rich countries to forgive debts to poor countries in order to avoid their debt slavery. It was also noted that on January 1, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady Mary and the World Day of Peace and Prayer for Peace, founded by Pope Paul VI in 1968.

Let us recall that in his Christmas message on December 25, Pope Francis called for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the war. In his “Urbi et Orbi” message, the fontifique emphasized the importance of courage and readiness to negotiate.
