US President Donald Trump did not fulfill his promises to impose tough sanctions against Russia and its trading partners, despite repeated statements about his ability to influence world leaders. Recent events make his attempts to control the situation already questionable.

The Russian-Ukrainian war and the conflict between Israel and Gaza have become some of the most serious challenges in Trump’s foreign policy. He intended to put an end to both conflicts, but the reality turned out to be completely different.

According to Axios, Trump, discussing his efforts, admitted to confidants that a mistake in assessing the Russian president’s desire for peace led to confusion in his strategy. Nevertheless, the president rejected rumors that he is being manipulated by Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to information from a senior White House official, Trump and his team have similar feelings of disappointment due to the inability to stop the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Expectations from communication with Putin and Netanyahu remain unmet.

Sanctions and Their Absence

Trump promised that if Putin did not express a desire to achieve peace with Ukraine, tough sanctions would be imposed against Russia and its trading companies. However, the American president did not have the political will to carry out his threats.

Around September 10, an incident was recorded with about 20 Russian drones crossing Polish airspace, leading to a new wave of tension in the region. Despite this step, Trump did not take any action.

Instead, his administration stated that it would delegate the issue of pressure on Putin to Europe, asking the European Union to impose new sanctions against Moscow for purchasing Russian oil.

An official noted: “The president is ready to impose serious sanctions on Russia, but emphasizes that Europe must step up. The same actions need to be taken to put pressure on countries financing the conflict.”

The escalation of the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East continues to remain on the agenda. Trump’s political decisions and their consequences raise many questions among both experts and the public.
