Russian authorities have seized more than $100 million from Google that was allocated to finance propaganda for the war against Ukraine.
In 2022, bailiffs seized these funds from Google’s accounts in Russia, leading to the bankruptcy of the local division of the company. The money was transferred to Russian TV channels such as RT and Tsargrad to support Kremlin propaganda. The actual amount of debt was significantly less than the amount seized, so Google filed lawsuits against RT, Tsargrad TV, and NFPT in the US and UK, trying to block these media outlets from seizing its assets in other countries.
Russian courts have ruled that Google must pay Tsargrad 32.8 billion rubles, but this amount could increase due to daily fines.
Google has accused Russian courts of deliberately imposing unfair sanctions and fines to punish the company for complying with international sanctions.
New propaganda operations prepared by Russia for European countries are aimed against Ukrainian refugees. The goal is to convince people who left the country because of the war not to return. Russia is already carrying out corresponding activities, including in Italy, using its accomplices – so-called journalists from the Ukrainian occupied territory, to justify the genocidal war against Ukraine. Russians are also very active in working with our citizens who left for European countries because of the war started by Russia.
