The Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation has introduced a ban on night flights over Israeli territory for Russian airlines from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. This decision came into effect today and will remain in effect until August 16. Companies are advised to plan their flights to Israel exclusively during the daytime to reduce risks.
Rosaviatsia already introduced a similar restriction on night flights over Israel in October last year after rocket attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah. However, this time the order to this effect is not on Rosaviatsia's website, and the information appeared only in a notice to air carriers (NOTAM).
This decision is related to “ensuring the safety of flights of Russian airlines in conditions of increased risk of terrorist threats in the region.” Russian airlines are advised to “carefully monitor updated information and comply with all recommendations to ensure flight safety.”
