Syria is independent from Russia and Iran, but its stability is still vulnerable – The Guardian

The moment has come for the liberation of Syria from the regime of dictator Bashar al-Assad, which has caused mixed feelings among many. The country got rid of the influence of Russia and Iran, but it faced new threats and problems.

Northeast Syria is experiencing internal difficulties and interference from other countries. Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers' Party are in open conflict, with financially supported Turkish militias engaging in criminal activities that result in the deaths of innocent people, writes writer Robin Yassin-Kassab.

An even more serious problem is the negative attitude from the West. The European Union and the United States are not lifting sanctions on Syria, despite the absence of the Assad regime. In addition, Israel, backed by the US, UK and Germany, has begun invading even more Syrian territory, targeting intelligence and military installations, presumably to destroy evidence of cooperation with the former regime.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Turkey was increasing its military presence along the border with Syria, which could indicate preparations for a large-scale invasion of territory controlled by Syrian Kurds and supported by America. This intensification began after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime and is reminiscent of the preparations for the previous invasion in 2019.

There are fears that after the liberation of Syria, new conflicts and threats may arise on its territory. The situation remains tense, and it is unclear what variables will determine the region's future.
