Pavel Durov will be charged with several serious offenses. He was arrested in the evening at Le Bourget airport in France. Durov arrived from Azerbaijan and was registered as a wanted person.

The warrant for his arrest was related to his refusal to cooperate with French law enforcement. He is suspected of drug trafficking and other serious crimes.

“He made a mistake this evening. We don't know why…”, said a source close to the investigation. Durov avoided traveling to countries where Telegram was under surveillance.

He had a habit of visiting the Emirates, former Soviet Union countries, South America and other regions. ONAF investigators notified Durov of suspicion and took him into custody. He faces trial and possible charges for crimes such as terrorism, drugs, fraud and more.

“Pavel Durov will definitely end up in jail. On his platform, he allowed countless offenses and crimes to be committed, and he did nothing to stop them,” the source said.

According to TF1, Durov faces 20 years in prison in France. Searches are currently being conducted at his properties. French intelligence services will seek access to correspondence related to criminal groups and sanctioned companies and individuals.

“Telegram is a hive of criminal content used for various criminal activities,” one investigator said.

According to French media, Durov received French citizenship as a result of a complex and political procedure. A special procedure for “outstanding foreigner” allows a foreigner to be awarded French citizenship for special merits. Pavel Durov also received a passport from the United Arab Emirates, where he has lived since 2017.
