Negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah for a ceasefire in southern Lebanon are moving forward, with the key decision on whether to reach an agreement resting with Iran's supreme leader. The plan calls for the IDF to withdraw its troops from the region in 60 days, with American observers in place. The Lebanese Army plans to control the border to prevent military action.

However, two controversial points remain. Israel objects to the participation of French forces in the monitoring mechanism due to recent criticism of President Macron. Also causing controversy is the inclusion in the agreement of a clause on the immediate discussion of disputed sections of the land border, on which Israel prefers to postpone a decision.

Sources said Israel will convey new proposals for the agreement to Lebanon this week. However, no final agreement has yet been reached, and the Israeli army will continue to respond to Hezbollah attacks. They hope to reach an agreement in the coming weeks, but until then the fighting will continue.
