The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Moshe Asman, reported a meeting with Iranian opposition leader Vahid Beheshti during a trip to London.
London, November 5, 2025: What the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Said
On November 5, 2025, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Asman reported a meeting in London with Iranian oppositionist Vahid Beheshti:
“Being in London for 1 day for several important meetings, I always first communicate with Vahid Beheshti – the leader of the Iranian opposition.
Due to his active activities against the criminal regime currently reigning in Iran, he is a personal enemy of it, so he is forced to be in London. But this does not prevent him from continuing to fight for justice and a better future for his country.
He was also in Ukraine at my invitation, seeing with his own eyes the devastation Russia has inflicted on Ukraine, including with the help of Iranian-Russian drones.
Iran is now an active participant in the axis of evil and a strategic ally of Russia, so regime change in this country is a very important mission. I blessed Vahid Beheshti for his success!”
The message is simple but loud: cooperation between Ukraine and representatives of the Iranian opposition is not symbolic, but lively and active.
Beheshti’s Visit to Ukraine: Kyiv, June 2023
Beheshti’s trip to Ukraine took place at the end of June 2023. He came to Kyiv at the invitation of Rabbi Asman, where:
Few noticed Beheshti’s visit to Ukraine at the time — the summer was noisy, the front was burning, and every day brought new headlines. But the fact remained: end of June 2023, Kyiv. He came at the invitation of Rabbi Asman, gave interviews to Ukrainian media, walked the streets of the capital, saw broken windows and gray houses with wounds on the facades.
In one of the interviews, he said something like this (conveying the meaning, not dry quotes):
“Most Iranians support Ukraine. Our people know what dictatorship is and know the price of blood. The Russian regime and the Iranian regime hold on to each other. If one falls — the other will not stand.”
A strong thought. Not diplomatic, not vague. And, frankly, at that moment it sounded almost daring: an Iranian defending Ukraine, accusing the Kremlin, calling for the Iranian Guard to be recognized as terrorists. And these are not just words from a podium — the man went through a hunger strike at the British Foreign Office, refusing food for 70+ days to be heard.
War makes strange allies. But it also creates simple lines: those who are for freedom — and those who are for killings.
Why His Words Are Important for Ukraine and Israel
Ukraine hears the motor of “Shaheds” over Odessa and Kyiv. Israel — threats of attacks from Iran and Syria.
And here appears an Iranian who:
comes to Ukraine during the war,
sees destroyed houses,
says that the fight against the Kremlin and against Tehran is the same fight.
For Ukraine, this is an important signal: not all of Iran is an enemy.
For Israel, it’s a reminder: inside Iran, there are those who do not want war and dictatorship.
When the Rabbi of Ukraine blesses an Iranian dissident — it is not only a religious gesture. It is a political symbol of the era: freedom unites faster than diplomats formalize protocols.
Beheshti and Israel: Jerusalem, January 2024
On January 2, 2024, Vahid Beheshti spoke in the Knesset of Israel — becoming one of the first Iranian oppositionists invited to the parliament’s podium.
There he stated:
“The regime in Tehran is an enemy not only of Israel but also of the Iranian people.
Iranians want freedom and peace, not war and terror.”
He was listened to as a person who knows the value of his words: for them, he has already been imprisoned, starved, lost health — but did not remain silent.
Who is Vahid Beheshti
His life… it’s hard to call it a straight line.
Born in 1977, in Borujerd (Iran) — a city with mountains, bazaars, and a long history.
Studied at a school with a focus on mathematics and physics.
Youth — confrontation with the regime, detentions, surveillance. He recalled how, as a teenager, he argued about the right of a Jewish family to live peacefully on their street — his character showed early.
In 1999, he left for the United Kingdom. At the time, it probably seemed like just a ticket to silence. But it turned out differently.
Became an activist, journalist, public critic of the Islamic Republic.
In 2023, he set up a tent at the British Foreign Office. Not for an hour, not for a flash mob. And stayed. Until the body almost gave up.
72 days without food — to force Britain to talk about recognizing the IRGC as terrorists.
Speaks in the Knesset of Israel, talks about freedom and that the Iranian people are not enemies of Israel and Ukraine.
Family? Yes. Life? Definitely. Fear? According to London police, there were threats — he was even advised to increase security. But he continues.
Symbol of the Era
London. Kyiv. Jerusalem.
Iranian dissident. Ukrainian rabbi. Russian missiles. Iranian drones.
The geography of this story is simple — it’s a map of people who understood:
if we do not stop evil together — it will come to everyone separately.
And this is no longer diplomacy.
This is what ancient books call an alliance of the righteous.
