Israel's Finance Ministry plans to cut IDF reservist pay in an effort to save hundreds of millions of shekels through a reform of the reserve service pay system. Under the new rules, pay for “combat readiness days” will be reduced and paid based on actual hours worked.

The Finance Ministry's calculations show that in 2024, the cost of reservist payments could reach NIS 30 billion. Therefore, the ministry believes it is necessary to carry out reforms to eliminate abuses and illegal payments. Inspections have shown that many reservists were overpaid for “service days” that they did not actually work.

However, the Finance Ministry's reform will not affect reservists of combat units serving on the front lines. The purpose of the changes in the system of reservist service pay is to reduce the burden on the state budget and prevent further cases of abuse in the Bituach Leumi system.
