The Israeli army announced the results of its investigation into the deaths of six hostages in the Gaza Strip. According to the investigation, it is highly likely that the hostages were executed by militants during an IDF attack. Questions have arisen as to whether the hostages died as a result of the IDF strike or were executed after the attack.
The strike on Hamas infrastructure was carried out on February 14, and the bodies were recovered only on August 20. Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi said the army was making every effort to return the hostages alive. He acknowledged mistakes and emphasized the importance of learning from them.
Halevi noted: “We are confident that the fighting is contributing to their return, but we have made mistakes. We will no longer be able to return the hostages alive. It is important to learn from mistakes and avoid them in the future. Thousands of soldiers and commanders are striving to accomplish this task and avoid new mistakes.”
